Senior Backend Engineer (LATAM)

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team focused on building and maintaining scalable backend systems and business-critical features. This is a fully backend-focused role for an experienced engineer who thrives in complex technical environments, takes ownership of challenging problems, and delivers meaningful business outcomes with minimal supervision.

The ideal candidate combines strong backend engineering fundamentals with excellent communication skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to independently drive initiatives from concept to delivery. You will work closely with distributed engineering teams across Latin America and the United States, contributing to system design, architectural decisions, and the continuous improvement of complex systems.

Golang is the primary technology of interest, although candidates with strong backend experience and a willingness to learn new technologies are encouraged to apply.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and business-critical features.
• Independently drive technical initiatives from initial problem definition through implementation and delivery.
• Navigate complex legacy systems, understand dependencies, and troubleshoot challenging technical issues.
• Participate in system design and architectural discussions, evaluating trade-offs and proposing effective solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders across multiple teams to align priorities and drive project outcomes.
• Communicate progress, risks, blockers, and technical decisions clearly and proactively.
• Manage priorities and execute multi-sprint initiatives with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate technical leadership through initiative, sound engineering judgment, and collaboration with senior and principal engineers.
• Leverage AI-powered development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and problem-solving efficiency.

• Professional experience with Golang.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Experience with distributed systems, microservices, and complex backend architectures.
• Experience contributing to system design and architectural decisions.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex.
• Experience working with international, cross-functional, and geographically distributed engineering teams.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, cross-team collaboration, and the ability to unblock others.

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in backend development.
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, API design, and software architecture.
• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining backend services in production environments.
• Ability to independently solve ambiguous problems and deliver solutions with minimal oversight.
• Experience working with complex systems, multiple dependencies, or large-scale legacy applications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar technical environments.
• Excellent English communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts, communicate trade-offs, and collaborate with distributed teams.
• Proven ownership of technical initiatives, from planning and prioritization to implementation and delivery.
